“What I had not expected was the effect that the Mackintosh Building was to have on me. It made me know I was a European. Mackintosh taught me that I was part of a great tradition, at home in Berlin, Paris and Vienna. It also taught me that small nations can be great nations and that if artists speak with their local voice they can be universal.”
